Revival of Buffalo Area Association of Math Teachers Takes Shape

Erie 1 BOCES Professional Development Coordinator Tricia Husul, alongside Alison Camp from Lancaster CSD, is leading the effort to revive the Buffalo Area Association of Math Teachers, a local chapter of the Association of Math Teachers of New York State. This chapter, which once existed but disbanded, is now being brought back from scratch. Through an interest survey, they have already attracted over 200 educators from 41 districts, spanning from Newfane to Jamestown. This inclusive initiative is open to K-12 teachers, administrators, and instructional coaches passionate about enhancing their math knowledge and building connections. To kick things off, a forum will be held on February 5th to begin shaping the organization.

Additionally, the group is hosting its first annual Spring Conference on May 3, featuring a keynote speaker on the neuroscience of learning, a vendor showcase, and networking opportunities. Tricia and Alison also aim to establish bylaws, form a board, and eventually gain nonprofit status.
